Start with the basics

Original Medicare is Part A + Part B, run by the federal government. Everything else โ€” Part C, Part D, and Medigap โ€” is sold by private insurance companies and builds on top of it.

Think of A and B as the foundation of a house. The other parts are how you finish it.
Agent tip: Start every new client here. Let them tap the blocks themselves โ€” people remember what they build.
Tool 1 ยท Birthday Timeline Engine

Every Medicare date, drawn from one birthday

Enter a date of birth and a few quick answers. The timeline builds itself: enrollment windows, coverage start dates, Medigap rights, and countdowns.

Coverage must be based on current employment. COBRA and retiree coverage don't count toward the Part B Special Enrollment Period.

Agent tip: Always document the SEP reason and the supporting date (move date, coverage end date, notice date) before you submit an application.
    Tool 3 ยท IRMAA Calculator

See the income cliffs before your client falls off one

2026 premiums are based on the 2024 tax return. IRMAA is a cliff: $1 over a threshold triggers the full surcharge for the entire year.

Agent tip: One-time income (Roth conversions, property sales, large IRA withdrawals) shows up two years later as IRMAA. Tax-exempt interest counts too. Coordinate with the client's tax professional. This tool is illustrative and not tax advice.

Amounts are per person. Part D IRMAA is paid to Medicare, not to the plan, and applies to Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage too.

Tool 4 ยท Late Enrollment Penalties

    What waiting really costs

Both penalties generally last for as long as the person has that coverage โ€” they don't go away.

Agent tip: Ask every client still on employer coverage for the plan's creditable coverage notice. It's the document that proves no Part D penalty applies.
    Tool 5 ยท Two Paths

    Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage

Two ways to get your Medicare benefits. Neither is right for everyone โ€” it comes down to doctors, travel, prescriptions, and how you like to pay.

    Questions to ask yourself

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ Which doctors and hospitals do I want to keep?
โœˆ๏ธ How often do I travel, and where?
๐Ÿ’Š What prescriptions do I take?
๐Ÿ’ต Do I prefer predictable costs or lower upfront premiums?
Agent tip: Present both paths every time. Let the client's priorities drive the recommendation, then document the needs analysis.
    Tool 6 ยท Exposure Simulator

What would a hospital stay cost?

Pick a scenario and see how cost exposure differs by path. Enter real premiums for the plans you're reviewing โ€” none are pre-filled.

    Tool 7 ยท Part D in 2026

The drug-cost journey now has a finish line

Drag the slider to a year of drug costs. Once out-of-pocket spending hits $2,100, covered drugs cost $0 for the rest of the year. The old "donut hole" is gone.

Based on the 2026 standard benefit: deductible up to $615, then 25% coinsurance until $2,100 out-of-pocket. Actual plans vary โ€” many use lower deductibles and flat copays.

    Medicare Prescription Payment Plan

An option to spread out-of-pocket drug costs into monthly bills instead of paying at the pharmacy counter. It doesn't lower the total โ€” it smooths it.

๐Ÿ’‰ Insulin: covered insulin costs no more than $35 per month.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Vaccines: recommended adult vaccines (like shingles) are $0 under Part D.
๐Ÿค Extra Help (LIS): can lower premiums, deductibles, and copays. People with full Medicaid are enrolled automatically; others can apply through Social Security.
โš ๏ธ Skipping drug coverage without other creditable coverage for 63+ days can trigger a permanent late penalty.
    Tool 8 ยท Decision Navigator

Answer a few questions and follow the path. Every node lights up as you go.

Agent tip: Confirm employer size with HR, not the client's guess. It decides whether Medicare pays first or second.
